Human Systems Coaching
Human Systems Coaching is an evidence-informed methodology for understanding human performance as an interconnected system, developed by Dr. Karolina LaBrecque at Help To Grow Institute LLC.
Why Conventional Approaches Often Fall Short
Most approaches to performance, wellness, and leadership treat a single domain in isolation. That approach can produce short-term improvement, but it rarely holds, because the domains it leaves unaddressed continue to exert influence.
Why Human Systems Coaching Exists
Every established discipline contributes real, valuable knowledge, and each one naturally focuses on its own domain.
That question, not a rejection of any existing field, is the origin of the methodology.
Human performance does not emerge from isolated traits. It emerges from the interaction of multiple human systems.
What Is a Human System?
A system is a collection of interconnected parts. Each part influences the others. Change one part, and the entire system changes with it. Consider a simple, familiar loop:
Human Systems Coaching applies this same systems thinking, deliberately, to human performance.
Why "Human Systems Coaching"
Human performance cannot be understood through isolated traits. Behavior, thoughts, stress physiology, environment, relationships, leadership, purpose, time, capacity, and recovery all continually interact. The methodology studies those interactions directly, which is what the name is meant to describe.
Twelve Domains, Continuously Influencing One Another
Human Systems Coaching starts from a single premise: nothing in human performance exists independently. Mind, body, behavior, nervous system, executive functioning, time, environment, relationships, leadership, purpose, capacity, and recovery all shape and are shaped by one another.
An Integrated Framework, Not a Set of Techniques
Human Systems Coaching draws on nine established disciplines. Each contributes real, independently valid knowledge. Human Systems Coaching does not replace or reinvent any of them; it integrates them into a single way of understanding and working with human performance. Its originality lies in the integration itself, not in any single concept within it.
Two Different Starting Points
The difference is not in effort or intention. It's in where the process begins.
Traditional Intervention
Human Systems Coaching
A Defined Process, Applied to Each Individual System
Human Systems Coaching follows a consistent process. What it reveals, and what it prioritizes, differs for every person or organization it's applied to.
Assessment
A structured evaluation of the domains most relevant to the presenting concern: cognitive, behavioral, physiological, and environmental.
Systems Mapping
Assessment findings are organized into a map showing how the domains are currently interacting, where capacity is being gained, and where it's being lost.
Identify Leverage Points
Not every finding warrants immediate attention. This step identifies the highest-leverage points, where change is likely to influence the whole system.
Strategic Intervention
A plan built around the identified priorities, addressing the interconnected domains together rather than in isolation.
Implementation
The plan is applied in real conditions, with support structured around how change actually occurs under real constraints.
Measurement
Progress is evaluated against the original assessment, not against general impressions of how the process felt.
Reassessment
The system is evaluated again, using the same structured approach as the original assessment, to see what has actually shifted.
Continuous Refinement
Human systems change over time. The process is designed to be revisited, not applied once and considered complete.
Human Systems Coaching treats measurable progress as central to the process, not incidental to it. Assessment, implementation, reassessment, and refinement form a continuous cycle, and progress is evaluated against the original assessment rather than general impressions of how the process felt.
Capacity, Performance, Recovery, and Environment Form a Loop
Sustainable change depends on understanding this cycle, not just the performance domain most people focus on first.
Performance draws on capacity. Recovery restores it. Environment determines whether recovery is possible at all. Address only one point in this loop, and the others continue to constrain it.
The Knowledge Domains Informing This Work
Human Systems Coaching does not rely on unsupported concepts. It synthesizes established knowledge from the following domains.
Researchers and Bodies of Work Informing This Methodology
This is not a formal reference list. It's intended to show that Human Systems Coaching is built on established bodies of knowledge, not on unsupported ideas.
Human Systems Coaching integrates established knowledge from these and other sources. It does not claim to originate the underlying research.
The Methodology Is the Foundation. These Are Its Applications.
Human Systems Coaching is not delivered as an abstract framework. It is expressed through specific programs, research, and education at Help To Grow Institute LLC.

The Future of Human Systems Coaching
This methodology forms the foundation for continued work across several areas.
Human Systems Coaching continues to evolve through education, practical application, and ongoing research conducted by Help To Grow Institute LLC.
Human Systems Coaching is an evidence-informed coaching methodology. It is not psychotherapy, medicine, rehabilitation, or a substitute for licensed healthcare. It integrates knowledge from established disciplines while remaining within the scope of professional coaching.
A Different Way of Understanding How People Function
Human Systems Coaching does not treat isolated problems. It examines the interconnected system producing them, and works with that system directly. This page describes the methodology. Its applications are covered on their own pages.
